Privacy Policy

Short version: we collect as little as we can, we don’t sell it, and you can ask us to delete it. The longer version is below, including what Google’s advertising code does on this site.

Effective date: October 29, 2026

Who we are

Futureshock is an independent tech news site at futureshock.wtf, owned and edited by RJ. For any privacy question or request, use the contact form and choose “Privacy request”.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

Every page on this site loads Google AdSense code so that Google can show ads here. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies and similar identifiers to serve ads and measure them. Google’s advertising cookies let Google and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet, and Google may use and share data from your visit to do that.

Google requires sites that show ads to visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland to use a Google-certified consent management platform. We have not set one up yet. We’ll update this page when we do.

Other services that load on our pages

  • Hostinger (web host and CDN). Our host serves the site through its content delivery network and keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses, browser details and the pages requested, to deliver and secure the site.
  • Hostinger Reach. Our pages load a script from cdn-reach.hostinger.com that belongs to Hostinger’s email-marketing tool. It exists to display email signup forms; we don’t currently show any signup forms on this site. When the script runs it may store a small record in your browser’s local storage.
  • YouTube. Some stories embed videos from YouTube. When an embedded video loads, YouTube (Google) may set cookies and collect data as if you were on YouTube. See Google’s privacy policy.
  • Fonts and images are served from our own server, so they don’t send your data to a font or image service.

Contact form

When you use our contact form, we collect what you type in: name, email address, topic, subject, message and, for corrections, a story link. The form is run by the Contact Form 7 plugin, and your submission is sent to the editor by email. We use it only to handle your message. We don’t sell it, rent it, or add you to a mailing list.

Things we store in your browser

  • Text size. If you use the A−/A+ control, your choice is saved in your browser’s local storage on your device. It is never sent to us.
  • Page counter. The hit counter at the bottom of the page adds one to a single site-wide total. It doesn’t use cookies and doesn’t store your IP address or browser details.
  • WordPress login cookies are only set for people who sign in to manage the site.

Comments

Comments are turned off on Futureshock, so we don’t collect comment data.

How long we keep data

Contact messages are kept in the editor’s inbox only as long as they are useful for handling your request. Server logs are kept by our host for its standard retention period. Advertising data is kept by Google under its own policies.

Your rights and requests

You can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, through the contact form (choose “Privacy request”). Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under laws such as the GDPR or California’s privacy laws. We don’t sell personal information. This doesn’t include data we must keep for administrative, legal or security reasons.

Changes

If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the effective date at the top.
